Kristen Over is a former Assistant State Attorney that practiced at the Hillsborough County State Attorney’s Office for over 15 years. When she left the Office of the State Attorney, she was working in the Major Crimes Unit handling homicide cases, including death penalty cases, and police-involved shootings. Prior to that, she was a Felony Division Chief for over 6 years. As a Chief, she supervised and managed lawyers and staff members that handled approximately 800 cases pending daily in the division from the initial investigation stage to bond matters, charging decisions, discovery, depositions, plea negotiations, trial and sentencing matters.
During her career, she prosecuted many complex cases involving murder, manslaughter, RICO, trafficking and other drug related offenses, sex crimes, child abuse and neglect, theft, fraud, and juvenile cases. She also handled numerous post-conviction matters involving 3.850 and 3.800 motions.
During her career, Kristen tried over 100 serious felony jury trials to verdict, including numerous homicide and sexual crimes cases. In addition, she has vast experience in investigations, motion practice, search and seize issues and grand jury presentations.
Kristen prosecuted many complex cases that involved expert testimony in the areas of firearms and trajectory, DNA, blood stain analysis, forensic pathology, crime scene and accident reconstruction, toxicology, insanity and other mental health related issues.
Kristen grew up in New York and moved to Florida to attend the University of South Florida where she obtained her bachelor’s degree in 1995. She then attended Stetson University, College of Law, where she obtained both her J.D. and M.B.A. in 2001. Kristen is a member of the Florida Bar, as well as admitted to federal practice in the Middle District of Florida.
